A selection of the work that I have done and examples. The first section denotes work that I have done at University as part of my degree. It varies a lot as I changed from Electronic Engineering (BEng) to Interactive Computing (BSc) in the second year but was able to join as a second year without taking first year. The second part shows the work done at work experiences.

Our Place Website

Created a new, responsive and modern school website, using a flatter and simpler design language, Bootstrap and Freelancer theme based on the Principles of Architecture. Conducted comparison research on competitors’ websites and analysis of branding, customer needs and experience.  Liaised and agreed design brief with client using wireframes, involving strong communication and negotiation skills. Graphics were developed using CSS, Javascript, Photoshop and Illustrator, incorporating brand requirements, photos, fonts and design scheme.

University Work:

(IM) Critical Design

Designed and produced an interactive media design fiction relating to the near future world and its technology. Developed the idea of a data collecting smart house and created an accompanying brochure and articles critiquing the idea. Created an 8 minute presentation to accompany in the style of a major company’s keynote speech.

(IM) Interactive Media Group Project

Developed an interactive media installation for a public showcase in a group of 4 of an escape room that used both an external website and a Unity virtual room to guide the user. Included live demonstration to a client, client manual, record of development and source files and executable.

(IM) Web Application Design and Development

Designed and developed a website using HTML, CSS and Javascript that is designed for both laptop and tablet viewing and incorporates the collection, storage and display of some data in the client’s browser.

Created a website for Nvidia including an online shop using Javascript that allows users to add products to their cart, then automatically calculates the live total cost. Used Twitter Bootstrap to ensure responsiveness. Edited product images using Photoshop.

(IM) User Experience Design 

First Assignment:

Conducted a short user research study, gathering information on the IBM Planning Analytics Web Interface and created a prototype of a design solution that responds to my findings in the form of a individually drawn slides in a presentation. Includes a short design report covering the user research conducted, insights, design concept and critical reflection.

Impressed by my proposal, I was invited to present my new design to IBM’s main developers who took my ideas on board and will consider adding these recommendations in their future iterations.

Second Assignment:

Designed and implemented a new app for the Yorkshire Museum including user research using both peers and customers at the museum. Creation of a mockup of the app using Adobe XD and a 2500 word design report.

(IM) Interactive Media and Society 

First Essay (1500 words):

Not to lie about the future is impossible, and one can lie about it at will‟. Barbrook and Cameron begin their essay on the Californian ideology with this quote from artist Naum Gabo. Why is the future, and the myths around it, so central in the Californian ideology?

Critically examine the role of online surveillance technologies and practices in shaping the contemporary digital world – whether in therms of its impacts upon digital labour, participatory culture, digital activism, or online identities. (IM) Media Production for Interactive Environments 

Developed 3D Interactive Environment that contains at least 4 minutes of gameplay using Unity3D with C# Scripts, 3D models and texture images. 2500 word implementation report.

Flocking algorithm created to demonstrate fluency in Java.

(EE) Logic Diagram using gates for Traffic Light System

Logic diagrams created through use of State Output Tables converted to K-Maps, developed into a design using traditional logic gates.

(EE) Simple game in C

Used basic skills in C to create a 2D game with its own UI, using functions and basic loops.

(EE) Computer Operating Systems and Interfacing

Wrote a set of functions in C that display text on a LCD screen driven by the  HD44780 controller IC using the Cortex-M4 Processor.

Created a game that runs on the CortexM boards, using the buttons and LEDs to their full potential.

Singapore Botanical Gardens

    • Implemented lean detection devices on trees – maintenance and installation of systems with recommendations for future development.
    • Created cloud based tree lean recording system using Google Drive Forms with password protection and photograph upload function.
    • Organised in an accessible user interface with facility and instructions for adding new trees.
    • Enabled QR code deployment, including cross platform compatibility for any device with a QR reading application.
    • Created all scripts in Javascript.

    PR training – preparing press releases, managing media pitches and media tracking.

  • Assisted in the development of new venture: http://www.wearto.com including warehouse sales, promotional emails and supplier relations.
  • Coordinated IT systems – recommended and solved problems with the IT systems.
  • Trained staff on best FaceBook use practices – effective posting with the aim of increasing the number of likes using competitions, scheduled posts and consistent graphic and typing styles to improve brand awareness.

York Marrow Newsletters

  • As Vice President/Treasurer of the York Marrow (Anthony Nolan) Society, I created regular newsletters distributed to members. This task has been taught and delegated to the Social Secretary.
